returning.

fall is setting in and i’m lamenting the loss of summer, my favorite season. even in san diego, where the weather is what dreams are made of, i feel a change in the air. this change has had me reflecting on this past summer. i returned to rhode island for the first time since switching coasts for independence day, which is always mine and andrew’s favorite part of summer.

southern californians don’t cherish the summer the way that new englanders do. those few months are time to spend with friends and family before the cold sets in and the days get shorter. the urgency to relax and socialize is a funny notion, but one that is palpable in rhode island summers.

i filled my time with my nieces and nephew, my best friend (holding the ceramic skull she created for me) and watching fireworks- the ultimate signifier of summer.
